“It is solved by walking.” — Saint Augustine

Fifteen years ago I wrote a manuscript on a topic I find very fascinating — Walking. My ex from that time — and still a friend — recently found the manuscript during a move and sent it to me by post and though it is worn and weathered by time, I thought I would tap into it for this post. Here is a short except to that manuscript to open this post.

“How many times have we said that someone “talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk”? Walking the walk shows that our actions align with our words, revealing our true selves. Unlike words, which can be deceptive, our actions are more honest and show how we actually think and feel.

This is why lie detectors measure heart rate and perspiration, and why poker players look for tells, such as a blink or twitch, that betray what’s really in their hand. Similarly, the answer to the song’s question “How can I tell if he loves me?” is found in his kiss. Just like in that case, walking puts the body and its truth into motion.

That is what walking the walk is all about — the human walk and what it reveals about us.”

— taken from my 2009 Manuscript, Walking the Walk.
