Tech humanism: Crafting a heart in the digital age

In the past four years, as I juggled the hats of a Design Strategist, Digital Transformation Coach and a Doctoral Student in Computational Rhetoric, I’ve cheekily crowned myself a ‘Tech Humanist’ — a playful jab at the myriad of new-age, nebulous job titles that sound human-centric but, in reality, are just cogs in the corporate machine of faux empathy. This self-bestowed title is my tongue-in-cheek response to the industry’s penchant for dressing up profit-driven motives in the garb of mock compassion.

But what is it exactly?

What is Tech Humanism

Tech Humanism is an emerging philosophy that places a high valued focus on the intersection of technology and human experiences. It recognizes that technology is not just a set of tools or systems, but a significant part of the human environment, deeply intertwined with our daily lives, behaviours, and societal structures- crafting our future as we continue to consume technology in its myriad forms.

Tech Humanism also engages in dialogue with past humanistic works on technology, extending beyond the pure design space. This includes, but is…
