Imagine you are seated on a bustling airplane, the hum of the engines and the murmur of fellow passengers creating a symphony of travel. As the aircraft taxis to the runway, a hush falls over the cabin — a moment of collective anticipation. It’s during this pause that the flight attendant steps forward, her voice a beacon of calm authority. With practiced gestures, she demonstrates the use of life jackets and oxygen masks. This scene, so familiar to anyone who has flown, holds a critical lesson. As the safety demonstration unfolds, there’s a particular directive that stands out:

“always secure your own oxygen mask before assisting others.”
