Out of words for humanity

It has been a while since I have posted. This is partly due to digital and social media exhaustion, as well as the anxiety-filled experience of completing a Ph.D. while holding down a full-time job and managing a remote learning schedule, for two growing boys on a hobbits’ meal plan. I am posting, I think (if still permitted, People of the Internet), due to exhaustion of many things. Like many people I know, it feels like we are living in an age of constant rage and outrage.

People and countries are being cancelled every day, and there is a pressing sense of duress to “identify” or else. Like many, I know my solution, is to recant into comfortable and familial safe spaces just to “be yourself.”

Just today a tree fell in my yard, and the tree guy and I had a bizarre physical exchange, as we circled around each other, suspiciously and mask-less, until we both just blurted out: “I’ve been vaccinated.”

Phew!!!

He then apologized, as did I (we’re Canadians), because none of us wanted to broach the topic of vaccinations — just in case the other had not been vaccinated and was an “anti-vaxxer.” He was more concerned with his business not getting a bad review for having an opinion.

What is the protocol?
