I completely get this and have been a long-term critique of Facebook for hijacking the sacred ideal of friendship. I have written here about how the metaphor of friendship makes it so that we now have to ask - is it a friend friend, referring to our analog friends vs. social media. Compounded by the social structures that further constrain the ability to meet people. I know as I get older, I find making friends even more difficult and I cannot imagine being in the dating world as well. But I have found one way to combat this is to begin creating your own "village." Frequent places where people you want to meet are. Perhaps it will start with a smile, hello and who knows??? I empathize. Thanks for sharing!
