Recently, I opened my Instagram inbox to varying instapals who thought it a good idea to DM me posts of all the ails of our world — particularly recent gut-wrenching posts of the ongoing death and destruction in the Middle East.

Clearly, the links were sent with the assumption that I was part of a socio political tribe, who would identify with their own positions, and that perhaps, I would visit the link and join them in laying on my own verbal assault in support.

This invitation, in fact, had the reverse effect.

Having been on a more than 6 months hiatus from social media, more specifically Instagram, it felt like a floodgate of worries had been dumped on my lap, and frankly I did not know how to respond but to shut down, once again. That was precisely the reason why I took a social media break and here they were adding to the visceral experiences that had turned me off 6 months earlier. So, instead, I relegated my news consumption to the occasional read on notable news network and…
