“Say what you mean and mean what you say.” — Lewis Carroll

Earlier this week, I explored the deep and dark abyss of corporate speak — the archenemy of clear communication that we all grappled with in the office wilderness. I rounded up a bunch of those pesky phrases that, let’s be honest, are doing a fantastic job of muddling our messages until we’re practically speaking in code.

From a buffet of buzzwords, acronyms, and the classic jargon-jumble, I selected my top 10 offenders.

But fear not! I didn’t just leave them there to confuse and conquer; I also offered some translations into plain English, of what lies behind this words. And to give us a fighting chance to clear the communication fog, I also propose some ways of saying what we mean. I can’t help you with meaning what you say.

And let’s be honest, some of these phrases should really be shown the exit door of our vocabulary. So here are my top 10 corporate jargon — what they are supposed to mean but most importantly what we can do to just say what we mean.
