Let’s be honest — staying perpetually motivated at work is as tough as resisting a nap after lunch. In my chats with friends, colleagues, and family, it’s clear we’re experiencing a motivation drought. Recent years have piled on reasons thicker than a winter coat: an economy doing more flips than an acrobat, the global political rollercoaster, and the lingering shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic — a curveball we haven’t seen since the infamous Spanish flu century ago. Then there’s the whole “work from home” saga, which, let’s face it, sometimes feels more like “work from under the comforter,” for some of us.
And personally? I’ve had my own tussles with motivation, especially during those cold and snowy Canada winter months when my serotonin levels are low and the reasons for getting up and putting in a day’s work seems less inspiring. But I’ve found humor to be a powerful ally. It’s like a warm light in a cold room, flickering with possibilities and reminding me that joy can be found even in the bleakest of times.
